An active law enforcement officer and sergeant for the St. Petersburg Police Department, Mike Ward has served as the Senior Vice President to the Sun Coast PBA since 2021. Prior to that role, Mr. Ward served as a PBA Director (rep) for his peers at the St. Petersburg Police Department.
Mr. Ward joined the St. Petersburg Police Department in November of 2002. Over his two plus decades of law enforcement service, Mr. Ward has worked in patrol, community policing, street crimes, and training. He is most proud of his time in the agency’s special investigations unit. In January of 2023, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant. He currently supervises a patrol squad on midnight shift. He is also a defensive tactics instructor and a firearms instructor.
Mr. Ward is the current lead defensive tactics instructor for the Police Academy where he teaches law enforcement recruits, corrections recruits, and “EOTs” (current out-of-state police officers who are seeking law enforcement certification and employment in the state of Florida). He is passionate about teaching and preparing law enforcement officers to do the job as safely as possible.
Mr. Ward was born and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida. He is a graduate of St. Petersburg College where he earned his degree in Public Safety/Criminal Justice. Like Mr. Vazquez, Mr. Ward is firm believer in God, Family, and Country. He enjoys spending time with his family and friends, smoking cigars, training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and reading about history.
